First Lady Michelle Obama to Appear at Nickelodeon's 25th Annual Kids' Choice Awards to Present Taylor Swift With The Big Help Award
Grammy® Award-Winning Swift to be Honored for Her Work with Tornado and Flood Survivors at 2012 Kids' Choice Awards to be telecast live from Los Angeles, Saturday, March 31
LOS ANGELES, March 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- First Lady Michelle Obama will make her first-ever appearance at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards to present Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Taylor Swift with this year's The Big Help Award in recognition of her extensive philanthropic endeavors, including her work with tornado and flood survivors in the United States. This year's Kids' Choice Awards, to be hosted by Will Smith, will be telecast live on Nickelodeon Saturday, March 31, at 8 pm (ET/Tape delayed for West Coast) from USC's Galen Center in Los Angeles, Ca. The Big Help Award recognizes individuals who take actions to better the world and whose significant impact on their community has inspired kids to do the same.
"Taylor's dedication to helping others has encouraged her fan base to do the same, and this is the very core of what The Big Help is, inspiring others through action," said Marva Smalls, Executive Vice President, Public Affairs and Chief of Staff, Nickelodeon Group. "We are honored that First Lady Michelle Obama, a past recipient of The Big Help Award will be presenting this formidable and inspiring artist with this much deserved honor."
First Lady Michelle Obama received The Big Help Award at the 2010 Kids' Choice Awards in recognition of her leadership in championing healthier lifestyles for kids through her Let's Move! campaign. Earlier this year, Mrs. Obama appeared in a special episode of Nickelodeon's hit series iCarly in support of her Joining Forces initiative to support military families.
Among her many charitable works, Swift is dedicated to raising funds and awareness to benefit those affected by natural disasters. Most recently, Swift took the unprecedented step of opening the last dress rehearsal of her Speak Now Tour to fans as a fundraiser for victims of the deadly tornadoes that tore through the Southeastern region of the U.S. The event raised more than $750,000, with 100% of ticket sales going directly to help tornado victims via the "Speak Now … Help Now" Fund established through the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
Swift's ongoing charitable work includes partnerships with Make-A-Wish Foundation, St. Jude Medical Center, Habitat for Humanity, TJ Martell Foundation, The Red Cross and its international and regional affiliates, The Salvation Army, Nick's Kids, and the Victory Junction Gang Camp, as well as libraries, schools and educational initiatives around the country.
Nickelodeon's The Big Help is a prosocial initiative that empowers kids to take positive actions on issues that are important to them. The goal of the campaign is to launch a kid-led movement, focusing on key issues like health and wellness, education, community service, and the environment. This is the fourth consecutive year The Big Help Award has been awarded to a celebrity who embodies the spirit of the Nickelodeon Big Help initiative. Previous winners include last year's recipient Justin Timberlake; this year's presenter of the award, First Lady Michelle Obama in 2010; and Leonardo DiCaprio in 2009.
Kids can pledge to make a difference in their community by going to www.nick.com/thebighelp/. The Big Help site will show them how to take positive actions that will directly affect their communities.
No stranger to Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards, Swift has been nominated four times and is the recipient of two blimp awards, for Favorite Female Singer (2010) and Favorite Song, "You Belong With Me" (2010). Swift also appeared in the 2011 HALO Awards as one of the celebrities paired with an extraordinary teen who shared his passion for community service and giving back.
A six-time Grammy award winner, Swift was also named Billboard's 2011 Woman of the Year, and is the reigning American Music Awards Artist of the Year, as well as both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year. Her Speak Now album has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide and she is Billboard's current Top 200 Albums Artist (all genres). With the release of her (now 5x-Platinum) Speak Now album in 2010, Taylor sold more albums that year than any other artist in any genre of music. She made history on the Billboard Hot 100, charting a record-breaking 11 songs from one album in a single week.
Nickelodeon, now in its 32nd year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The company includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, online, recreation, books and feature films. Nickelodeon's U.S. television network is seen in 100 million households and has been the number-one-rated basic cable network for 17 consecutive years. TAYLOR SWIFT CELEBRATES 5TH CONSECUTIVE #1 SINGLE FROM SPEAK NOW ALBUM
TAYLOR WRAPS 111-SHOW, 13-MONTH WORLD TOUR WITH SOLD-OUT SHOWS, RAVE REVIEWS AND STRONG SALES
NASHVILLE, TN – March 22, 2012 – 6-time GRAMMY winner Taylor Swift is at the top of the Billboard chart this week as her single “Ours” ascends to the #1 position on the Top Country Songs chart. “Ours” is the fifth single, and fifth consecutive #1 song, from her 5x Platinum-plus Speak Now album, released in October of 2010 on Big Machine Records. The album’s previous #1 songs were “Mine,” “Back To December,” “Mean,” and “Sparks Fly.”
On Sunday evening, Taylor performed the 111th and final show of her 13-month blockbuster Speak Now World Tour, playing to a capacity crowd for the third consecutive night in Auckland, New Zealand’s Vector Arena. The tour visited stadiums and arenas in 19 countries spanning four continents, with the New Zealand Herald writing of the final show, “When she came out the room exploded, and she opened super-strong. The set heats up and stays strong …one of the best things about the show is how inclusive it feels - like she would sing personally for everyone on the arena if she could….while as a production it dwarfs any other arena show I've seen. One thing abundantly clear to all concerned was that we're unlikely to witness a show like that again in a long, long time. Maybe ever.” Taylor holds the #1, #2, #5 and #8 positions on Australia’s Aria Top 20 Country Albums sales chart this week.
Taylor has two songs on the soundtrack album The Hunger Games – Songs From District 12 and Beyond, which is currently #1 on the iTunes Albums Chart. In addition, she voices the character of Audrey in Dr. Seuss’s The LORAX, which is this year’s top grossing movie to date, with a box office total in excess of $158 million.
Taylor is nominated for three 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards: Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, and Video of the Year. She is also up for Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Song at the 25th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards. She is featured on the April cover of Harper’s Bazaar Australia, and was on the cover of Vogue in February. Taylor is the reigning Billboard Woman of the Year and the AMA Artist of the Year. She is both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association’s current Entertainer of the Year, and now has more than 11.8 million Twitter followers (@taylorswift13) and 29 million Facebook friends.

Willie Nelson is the creative genius behind historic recordings like "Crazy," "Hello Walls," "Red Headed Stranger" and "Stardust.” In a career spanning an amazing six decades, Nelson’s catalog boasts more than 200 albums. He's earned every conceivable award and honor to be bestowed a person in his profession. He has also amassed reputable credentials as an author, actor and activist.
In many ways, however, the weighty distinction "living legend" does Nelson a disservice, for it discounts the extent to which he is a thriving, relevant and progressive musical and cultural force. As ever, Nelson tours tirelessly, climbing aboard Honeysuckle Rose III (he rode his first two buses into the ground), taking his music and fans on a seemingly endless journey to places that were well worth the ride.
Initially known for his role as DJ in Kid Rock’s legendary Twisted Brown Trucker band, Uncle Kracker made a stunning solo debut with 2001’s Doublewide. Fueled by the #1 smash, “Follow Me,” the album exploded onto the Billboard 200’s top 10 on its way to two-time platinum certification from the RIAA.
Despite his relatively recent breakthrough solo success in Country music, Uncle Kracker is actually no stranger to the audience, scoring a #1 hit with "When the Sun Goes Down," his collaboration with Kenny Chesney. He also co-wrote Kid Rock's multi-format smash "All Summer Long" which peaked at #3 on the Billboard country charts.
With NEEDTOBREATHE’s reputation as a must-see live act built from non-stop touring, the Rinehart brothers, pastor’s sons who hail from the rural South Carolina town of Possum Kingdom, along with drummer Joe Stillwell and bass player Seth Bolt, were determined to create a statement-making album that truly captured the magic behind this genuinely appealing rock band.
Along with USA Today, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Relix, VH1, Associated Press and Billboard, The New York Times raves “this gifted band makes anthemic Southern rock that, on its fourth album, The Reckoning, is beginning to reach for the far seats of the arena.” The Salt Lake Tribune simply calls The Reckoning “the best rock album of 2011... full of passionate anthems poised to fill arenas.”
Fans of all music genres will experience non-stop entertainment by today’s most popular acts from dual headline stages set at the pristine 1600-acre BamaJam Farms, “Where God and Country Coincide.” Come for the music, cool down in the new water park (opening spring 2012), explore the ATV trails, tailgate at the camping sites, park the RV with full service amenities or swing a club or two at the par 3 executive golf course onsite. Country star and BamaJam Farms spokesman Darryl Worley will perform and host the opening night of what promises to be one of the grandest outdoor entertainment extravaganzas.

LADY ANTEBELLUM MAKES PLANS TO
“OWN PROM NIGHT” WITH TORNADO RAVAGED
HENRYVILLE HIGH SCHOOL AND ITS COMMUNITY
Nashville, TN – March 20, 2012 – Three weeks ago, GRAMMY winning trio Lady Antebellum began a contest offering fans a chance to OWN THE NIGHT with a private concert at their prom this spring. After carefully reviewing each submission, the trio unanimously chose the community of Henryville, IN for their story, resilience and unity following devastating tornados earlier this month. Not only was their own submission moving, but schools across the country spontaneously submitted videos campaigning on behalf of Henryville High School to receive the special concert, including the winning submission by Silver Creek High School.

Due to a previously scheduled commitment, the trio won’t be able to make Henryville High School’s scheduled prom. In lieu of a performance at their official celebration, the band has decided to throw a bigger event on May 16 in nearby Louisville, KY for the school’s Juniors and Seniors followed by a benefit for the community. Details for all arrangements will be shared over the next few days as they are confirmed on www.ladyantebellum.com.

GEORGE STRAIT LANDS HIS
59TH NUMBER ONE SINGLE
Nashville, TN – September 14, 2011 – George Strait does it again! His current single "Love's Gonna Make It Alright" off his latest CD HERE FOR A GOOD TIME lands the Number One spot this week on mediabase radio chart. This feat ironically marks his 59th career number one hit for the 59 year old country music superstar - one per year of his life! "Love's Gonna Make It Alright" written by Al Anderson and Chris Stapleton is one of the few Strait did not write with son Bubba and longtime pal Dean Dillon for this album .
"You know, I’ve always thought that whether I’m writing or not, I’ve gotta pick the best songs, whether or not they’re mine," says Strait. "I’m not gonna sing ‘em just because I wrote ‘em. I’ve gotta find the best songs to make the best record I can. I think all of these songs deserve to be on the record."
Here For A Good Time, debuted at Number One on the Billboard Country Album Charts (his 3rd number one album debut in a row) and #3 on Billboard Top 200 Chart (behind Lil Wayne & Adele). Strait co-produced this album with his long-time friend and legendary producer Tony Brown at Shrimpboat Sound Studio in Key West, FL - the same studio where Strait recorded his last three award-winning albums. The Country Music Hall of Famer co-wrote seven of the album’s 11 tracks with his son Bubba and legendary songwriter Dean Dillon.
With a career spanning more than 30 years, George Strait has the most number one singles of any artist in history including Elvis. He has sold nearly 69 million records and with 33 different platinum or multi-platinum albums has the most RIAA platinum certifications in country music and the third in all genres, behind The Beatles and Elvis Presley. Strait was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
George Strait is the only artist who has had 85 out of 90 radio singles make it to Top 10 and 24 albums at the number one position on Billboard’s Country Music Album Chart – George Strait.

From Manning Mania to Spring Break Country
Jimmy Carter
Music City awaits the verdict. Is Peyton coming or not? This is bigger than anything I can think of that’s gone down here…stay tuned…the drama can’t build any higher…
If country music was as wild as a Luke Bryan show in Panama City what a wild world this would be.
Music when you a teenager should get you excited. To say the least, Luke Bryan has fans clothes falling off in some cases at Spinnaker’s where Kenny Chesney boiled the fans for several years. Beware when Luke goes into Country Girl Shake it For Me when many of the girls have downed a few drinks at the beach…whew!
Eric Church’s crowd was partying hard too but not like the Bryan gang! At the pool parties really didn’t hear a lot of country this year. I did hear RED SOLO CUP to no ones surprise.
Republican presidential campaigns certainly spin more than a few county tunes and their victory parties and rally’s. Brooks and Dunn Only in America still a huge favorite..
Toby Keith’s 3 year old thoroughbred Reckless Jerry has a big weekend in Hot Springs planned. The Rebel Stakes is a prelude to possible Kentucky Derby run.
Toby seems to have all the bases covered these days…From horse racing to songs on the radio to swamp water drinks for St Patty’s day at his food chain.
Ipads are everywhere here..great on the tour bus too…next week a report on who bit for a new one and I may get Ipad number 4..I love my 2 ones and one 2. Amazing invention.
Lionel Richie on HSN Home Shopping Network begins his stepped up push to release of his country duets cd..Tuskegee.
Trace Adkins pushing sausage..Lionel on HSN..Springsteen making speeches at SXSW. Different world requires non traditional ways of doing business. The internet selling cd’s a 25 cents..$3.49 on google and amazon? Whats that all about?
How about that $999 dollar ticket for BamaJam? You get to stand on stage! $999 whoa…I bet for 5 grand they will dangle you from the spotlight mast!
Things seem a little calm around here with Spring vacations and ACM buildup. ACMs Vegas April 1. I just got back from Spring break..I’ll watch that one on TV..Vegas once a six months should be the limit.
